BRCAtest uk was formed with the specific aim of expanding physician-supported access to genetic testing for hereditary cancer risk to every person, everywhere.

It is a partnership which brings together the clinical expertise of private health company Innermost Healthcare (which has its own clinic in Cardiff and is backed by a consortium of health specialists in the fields of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Maternal and Fetal Medicine and Infertility) with the skills of Everything Genetic, which specialises in forging links with private healthcare providers and insurers to facilitate access to the latest developments in genetic testing.

The BRCAtest uk service uses US-based laboratory Color’s hereditary cancer tests, supported by some of the Britain’s foremost genetics specialists who provide post-test counselling from bases in London, Manchester and Cardiff.

One of the UK’s top breast surgeons, Professor Kefah Mokbel, heads its Medical Advisory team which also includes one of the country’s most respected ovarian cancer experts, Dr Adam Rosenthal, and Innermost Healthcare’s Consultant in Fetal Medicine, Bryan Beattie.

All its tests are based on simple saliva samples: in addition to those focusing on the risk of the most common types of hereditary cancer (breast, ovarian, colorectal and pancreatic), BRCAtest uk has now expanded its service with additional tests for four inherited heart conditions. These are Cardiomyopathy – a disease of the heart muscle, Arrhythmia – any disturbance in the rhythm of the heartbeat, Arteriopathy – disease of the arteries, and Familial Hypercholesterolemia – an inherited high cholesterol condition.
