Dr James Mackay
Medical DirectorDr Mackay has been practicing as a Consultant Genetic Oncologist for over 25 years within the NHS and private sector, advising cancer patients and their families on genetic testing. He acts as Everything Genetic’s UK & International Medical Director.

Dr Mackay trained as a consultant medical oncologist with a special interest in cancer genetics at Trinity College Cambridge and the University of Edinburgh Medical School.
He established the NHS Cancer Genetics Services in East Anglia at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and North East Thames at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He left the NHS to establish a private practice in 2006.
Dr Mackay is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Research Department of Oncology, the Cancer Institute, University College London and has been involved in clinical academic projects throughout his career.
He is involved with several national cancer charities. Having worked with several commercial genetic testing companies over the last few years, he now acts as Everything Genetic’s UK and International Medical Director.

Professor Mokbel was named as one of Britain’s Top Doctors by The Times newspaper in 2010 and named by Tatler as one of Britain’s best breast surgeons in 2006, 2007 and 2013.
The UK charity Breast Cancer Hope aims to improve the quantity and quality of life in women diagnosed with breast cancer, while Breast Specialist (www.breastspecialist.co.uk) aims to present women with the latest medical information regarding breast cancer and common breast conditions in a reader-friendly format. The information provided enables women with breast symptoms to understand their conditions more fully, helping to alleviate any anxieties, and allowing them to actively participate in their treatment.

Miss Choy is mainly based at Princess Grace Hospital in the heart of London’s world-renowned medical district and has been working in London Breast Institute for over 10 years. She has served in the NHS at Homerton University Hospital and as an Honorary Consultant at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
She speaks both English and Chinese, and graduated from the Medical School of the University of Sydney in 1986 and her postgraduate training has been in various Surgical Units in Australia, Hong Kong and United Kingdom including St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Miss Choy’s interests are in both female and male benign and malignant breast conditions, an oncoplastic approach to breast cancer surgery with immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy, use of sentinel lymph node biopsy technique, family history breast risk and genetic assessment and advice, breast contour re-sculpturing including breast reduction, augmentation and liporemodelling.
Miss Choy’s current research is on a study of gene arrays and demographic data of young women, especially Afrocarribeans, presenting with breast cancer. Other projects include a looking into barriers to women accessing to early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in various ethnic groups and auditing efficacy of endopredict compared to other free online models to predict benefit of chemotherapy.
Miss Choy is a member of the Association of Breast Surgeons in UK, Breast Surgeon International and the Breast Section at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Mr Dani is a Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He was appointed in October 2014 after finishing Higher Surgical Training in Kent, Surrey & Sussex Deanery, where his training included stints at the prestigious Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital.
After post-graduation, Mr. Dani undertook three years of research at Mount Vernon Hospital (studying interstitial fluid pressure in solid tumours and its manipulation to increase delivery of chemotherapy drugs). He then trained as a Specialist Registrar in Surgery in Kent, Surrey & Sussex Deanery, where he specialised in breast cancer and benign breast disease, including complex reconstruction and cosmetic breast surgery. He has held travelling fellowships in Paris and Helsinki and worked with eminent experts in the field of breast surgery.
Mr Dani specialises in local perforator based flaps (LICAP, MICAP), which allow volume replacement of large tumours avoiding need for mastectomy and reconstruction.

Mr Devalia is a fully accredited breast and oncoplastic surgeon and is on the GMC’s Specialist Register. His papers on clinical management of breast cancer and techniques, have been published in several medical journals.
He began his higher surgical training in the Oxford Deanery and continued as a Specialist Registrar in the London Deanery. He trained at various hospitals including St. Georges Hospital (London), Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospital (Chertsey), the Royal Surrey County Hospital (Guildford), and worked as a Senior Registrar in the oncoplastic breast unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital (Sutton).
After completing his training, he was appointed as a Locum Consultant at the Royal Marsden Hospital before his substantive appointment at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust as a/their Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon.
Mr. Devalia was certified ‘Best Student at National Level in General Surgery’ (August 1997) and was awarded a Gold Medal in the final examination for the Diploma of National Board, India.

Professor Robert Leonard

Professor Leonard originally trained and qualified at Charing Cross Hospital, where he was awarded the Clinical Gold Medal and six of the final year prizes. He undertook Post-graduate research Fellowships at Oxford’s Radcliffe Infirmary and Harvard Medical School and later went on to become Professor of Medical Oncology at Swansea Medical School and Director of the South West Wales Cancer Institute. His current roles include Professor of Cancer Studies and Chief of Service for Medical Oncology at Imperial College, London.
A medical oncologist with a major interest in the management of breast cancer, he is a co-founder and Medical Director for Maggies’ Cancer Caring Centres UK, and has chaired the professional advisory board. Since 2009 he has been Chair of the Scientific Board for Breast Cancer Care UK. He also set up and Chairs the International Anglo Celtic Collaborative Oncology Trials Group. He is author/co-author of more than 350 peer reviewed original papers and reviews. He has been a senior advisor to Cancer Research UK and is lead investigator several previous and current UK clinical trials. He also regularly acts as expert oncology witness for legal cases.
Professor Leonard is multi-lingual, speaking English, French and Spanish.

Dr Rosenthal is one of the UK’s most respected ovarian cancer experts, with over 20 years of specialisation in the field of inherited gynaecological cancer and ovarian cancer screening.
He is a practicing gynaecological surgeon and researcher at University College London. He is the clinical lead on the world’s largest study of screening for women at high risk of ovarian cancer; the UK Familial Ovarian Cancer Screening Study (UKFOCSS).
He also practises at The Princess Grace, Highgate and Weymouth Street Hospitals as well as leading the private ovarian cancer screening service at The London Ultrasound Centre. Dr Rosenthal is a medical advisor to the Eve Appeal and Ovacome charities. He has sat on the steering committee of the UK Cancer Genetics Group and has given numerous interviews to the UK media, including Channel 4 News and Radio 5 Live.
He is passionate about the importance of establishing a person’s inherited risk of cancer so they can take measures to protect themselves and their blood relatives from developing the disease.

Dr Winchester is a Consultant Virologist and is on the GMC’s Specialist Register.
He undertook his higher specialist training in the London Deanery. He trained at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Public Health England Colindale. He also undertook an attachment at Public Health England Porton Rare and Imported Pathogens Laboratory as part of his training. Dr Winchester was awarded 1st prize oral presentation for the Specialty School of Pathology, London Deanery, 2011.
After completing his training, he was appointed as a Locum Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust before his substantive appointment at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. He undertakes undergraduate and postgraduate teaching for medical students and specialty registrars.
He has published in several medical journals. As part of his committee roles, he has hosted conferences for the Royal College of Pathologists and the Clinical Virology Network.
